Timing is Everything

Timing is Everything

Last weekend I got to spend the day getting FUNC-y at FUNC fest! While there were water sports, food trucks, and music galore, I spent the day at the Black Canyon Boys & Girls Club booth fielding questions on the Club. I noticed, at the end of the day, the primary question I was asked about was on the capital campaign in general but, more so, when exactly is this new building getting built?

Now that is a good question! Let me give you a quick breakdown on the plan to get the Club kids into their new digs. The capital campaign launched in May at the Montrose Wine & Food Festival and right now we are still in the funding phase. The total project is $3 million with the goal to get $1 million in a low interest loan, $1 million in grants, and $1 million in local fundraising. The first step in getting to the loan and grants is the local fundraising. We have to show a substantial financial commitment to the project before those other funding avenues will work with us. We have a great start so far with $314,000 raised but we still have a ways to go. So, I actually have no exact answer on when the building will be built because it all depends on when the funds will be in place to get started, particularly at the local level. I know $1 million sounds like a lot. Believe me, my wife has been buying lotto tickets on her own to try and get that goal reached as soon as possible. But I keep telling her it is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. While big donations are always welcome, the small ones are just as valuable in my opinion. In fact, an old school pal of my wife’s donated $50 at FUNC fest to go toward the capital campaign. That’s amazing! And it does not just have to be donations that help; if you can’t donate, spread the word around the community about what Club is doing and get them excited. Do you have time? We have our lot on the corner of Niagara and 6700 Rd that needs to be kept up prior to build and we can always use help keeping it looking nice. There are lots of things you can do to help make this building a reality. We want the community to be proud of this facility and of all the work we do, but we can’t do it without you.
